Liberal bloggers search for a way to hook Democrats

...Until now, they've gone largely unnoticed by Democratic candidates and their minders. But no longer, apparently. A bloggers convention in Las Vegas over the weekend drew a very respectable gathering of the Democratic elite, including party chairman Howard Dean, U.S. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid and four unannounced but likely candidates for the 2008 presidential nomination -- Govs. Tom Vilsack of Iowa and Bill Richardson of New Mexico, former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and retired Gen. Wesley Clark. ... It's appealing to lots of liberals. But it's a really bad idea. Just the thing to turn off independent voters sick to death of the rampant partisanship on display in Washington these days. The bloggers are, in short, very much a mixed bag. They'll be a volatile, even precarious ally. But Democrats, who suffer from a crisis of confidence despite Bush's poor poll ratings, are likely to embrace them. They'll take help where ever they can find it. Controlling the blogger, however, is another matter. As Mark Moulitis, a prominent blogger, told reporters, his crowd intends to make its presence felt in the primaries and caucuses to select the 2008 Democratic presidential candidate.
"I think there's clearly going to be a blogosphere primary," he said. ...
